Manager of Finance and Accounting- Scottsdale, AZ

Overview:

The Manager of Finance and Accounting holds broad responsibilities in all areas of accounting and finance, both for Tallwave as well as our portfolio and client companies. This position is responsible for a full range of accounting responsibilities, resulting in accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with relevant standards and regulations. The position also has responsibilities in budget and forecast activities, balance sheet analysis, cash and working capital management.

Job Description:

The Manager of Finance and Accounting has contact with executive and line managers, investors and board members, and clients and entrepreneurs, which requires outstanding written and verbal communication skills. The position’s most critical responsibilities include:

  • Perform all accounting and administrative tasks and processes necessary to report companies’ financial performance and position regularly in a timely and accurate manner per direction from management;
  • Manage all key finance, accounting, and business processes including general ledger and subledger maintenance, reconciliation, and control; billing; accounts receivable and credit & collections; contract administration; accounts payable and vendor relations;
  • Lead and/or support initiatives to prepare budgets, forecasts, and ad hoc reports and analyses as directed by executive management and/or the board of directors;
  • Advise start-up companies on best practices and optimal solutions in a broad variety of finance and accounting areas, i.e. bookkeeping, budgeting and forecasting, financial reporting and analysis, operations, working capital management, valuation, capital structure, etc., and implement solutions based on those recommendations and other factors;
  • Work directly with companies’ departments and clients to accurately report and fully analyze financial results, and successfully manage revenue and expense budgets;
  • Establish, implement, communicate, and monitor company and client internal control processes and systems to fully safeguard the companies’ assets;
  • Prepare short-term (13 weeks) and medium-term (6-12 months) cash flow forecasts in order to optimize cash positions and investment of excess balances.
  • Review various balance sheet accounts and ensure they are accurately reflected in the financial statements;

Desired Skills:

Candidates should have at least 7 years of professional experience in the areas of responsibility described above. A CPA license and/or MBA are preferred, but not required, qualifications. Candidates should have extensive experience working as team leaders, team members, and individual contributors and should be able to communicate concisely and effectively with team members, managers, and stakeholders at all levels of a wide variety of organizations. Candidates should be comfortable and productive in a work environment characterized by rapid change, multiple competing priorities, and very high expectations regarding the quality and timeliness of work prepared for both internal use and external clients.

  • Have investment, strategy consulting, or product marketing experience, preferably with engagement management experience.
  • Be well versed in current product or marketing trends as they relate to early stage start-ups.
  • Have specific functional knowledge in areas such as sales channels, customer acquisition and management, pricing, industry and competitive research and product design, how functional area impacts business strategies and senior management’s ability to create and sustain a competitive advantage.
  • Have a minimum of 1-3 years of intern, analyst or product management related work experience in venture management, consumer product, software, or technology related fields.
  • Have experience with general software and start-up development life cycles and methodologies, or prior experience working with website related user experience and design processes is a plus.

Product Management Associate- Scottsdale, AZ

Job Description:

Tallwave’s Product Management Associate will work in our product management practice area in our business accelerator division. The role will assist in the product discovery, prototyping, and validation functions of client work and will have the opportunity to develop a broad range of product marketing, product management, and technology domain expertise. The ideal candidate will have an inquisitive mind and be passionate about the creation and development of new products and technologies.

Desired Skills:

The ideal applicant is a self-starter who enjoys the challenges and rewards of professional and entrepreneurial service work within a fast paced team environment.  The candidate should be someone who:

  • Has a minimum of 1-3 years of analyst or product management related work experience in consumer product, software, or technology related fields.
  • Strong and demonstrable analytical ability, prior experience with surveys, excel data mining, and research related tasks a plus.
  • Familiarity with general software development lifecycles and methodologies, prior experience working with website, user experience, and design processes a plus.
  • Ability to present strategic and tactical product subjects to internal peers and executives, plus clients and partners.
  • Ability to work across team functions and communicate effectively with various Product Development, Sales, Account Management, Support and Executive teams to develop, deliver and articulate customer and market driven solutions.
  • Effective writing skills, prior experience writing research summaries and/or product specification documents a plus.
